Central Coast SolarShare is not currently operating. The project – run jointly by the Peninsula Environment Group, eBouddi and Umina Community Group – was intended to test community energy trading through a pilot study on the NSW Central Coast but due to various developments that is not possible at this time.
Note that at the moment in Australia, most electricity generated during the day is already coming from solar, while most electricity generated at night comes from coal or gas. Therefore, to reduce emissions, whether or not you have solar panels, you should try to use electricity during the day – basically, whenever the sun is shining. That includes running dishwashers, washing machines, setting your hot water system to heat or running your pool pump, during daytime. To be safe, if you don’t have solar panels we would recommend running these appliances once the sun is up but before peak rates begin at 3pm.
